Teachers demand a salary increase from the Government: “It is a disgrace”

Sonia Alesso , head of the Confederation of Education Workers ( CTERA ) demanded to discuss the teachers ' salary negotiations and better working conditions. In this same sense, she asked the Government to update the National Teacher Incentive Fund (FONID) and announced that they will continue with the strikes and mobilizations if salaries remain at $420,000.
For the moment, the Minister of Human Capital, Sandra Pettovello , announced that today at 3:00 p.m. there will be a meeting with the aim of reaching an agreement on the teachers' demands; the unions reported that, if this is not achieved, the strike measures could be maintained, or even increased, which are already scheduled for next week.
"The National Government postponed the call without updating the salary floor, which meant an adjustment. Today the floor is at $420,000, it is a disgrace to say that it is a good salary ," criticized the union member in dialogue with Radio Con VOs. In addition, she questioned Javier Milei for "governing without an educational budget" and for the "disregard" for teachers.
Following this, the CTERA representative added: "We hope that the Nation resolves what it has not resolved in a year. We are without an educational budget and this is going to affect schools and universities." Meanwhile, hundreds of students did not start classes today due to the strike action that was called for and extended to several provinces.
There will be two mobilizations on February 24. One took place in the morning, led by Roberto Baradel, while at 3:00 p.m. the groups will go to the Ministry of Human Capital, where the first of the meetings to discuss the teachers' salary negotiations will take place.
In this regard, there will be another strike on February 27, although there are no confirmed mobilizations. The same applies to Wednesday, March 5, in one of the strikes announced by the teachers' unions grouped by the General Confederation of Labor (CGT), so there will probably be demonstrations throughout the City of Buenos Aires.
The strike was promoted by the unions Union of Argentine Teachers ( UDA ), Association of Technical Education Teachers ( AMET ) and Confederation of Argentine Educators ( CEA ), who are demanding that Javier Milei's government restore the National Fund for Teacher Incentives ( FONID ) and reactivate the national collective bargaining agreement.
"WE ARE ASKING FOR NATIONAL TEACHER PARITY. THE SALARY FLOOR IS $420,000 AND THEY SAY IT IS A GOOD SALARY, IT IS A SHAME"
